This weekend Alison and I have been working away at the spring issue of Twin Stripe and we look forward to sharing it in just a few weeks. In addition to working on the issue, I have also been growing my blog skills by taking an e-course, Blog Boss, with Holly Becker, one of my favorite bloggers. Her blog, Decor8, always has beautiful, fresh inspiration that I look forward to each day. My weekly “homework” for the course was to do case studies on eight blogs that rock! Since Alison and I read a lot of blogs, it was hard to select only eight, but here are my picks.
I discovered Lisa’s blog, Elembee, when searching for recaps on Alt Summit. Lisa is a blog designer, developer and strategist, so many of her posts are focused on best blogging practices. Her site layout is clean and easy to navigate, which keeps me coming back. She is also active on social media and replies to tweets, which I appreciate.
2. Fabulous K
I have been a fan of Kelly’s blog, Fabulous K, for a few years. She is also a blog designer and developer, so her blog layout is clean and easy to navigate. On top of that, Kelly has dynamite taste! She takes beautifully styled photos of her everyday life to share on the blog. Additionally, she highlights fashion and home trends, but she brings them to a level that are easy to identify with.
3. House of Earnest
I just discovered House of Earnest a few days ago and feel in love with Erin’s beautiful DIY projects. Her blog is uncluttered and simple, letting her beautiful images shine through. She has three main categories, which make the blog easy to navigate and enjoy. I can’t wait to make her adorable gold foil tumblers for the summer.
4. Lavender and Clove
Meredith of Lavender and Clove is a Blog Boss classmate and has a beautiful blog! As I was perusing the blog, I fell in love with her parties that were often accompanied with fresh flower arrangements. One of my favorite posts was her styling of a Super Bowl party. Even though is traditionally thought of as a more masculine event, she did a great job of adding a feminine touch to the party.
Lolalina is a blog devoted to creating a home. This blog is filled with inspiring images and great writing. Laura has a series on “Slow Decorating,” which I closely identify with. I would love to spend tons of money to get all of the pieces I think I need to complete my home, but if I just take it slower, I will end up with pieces that work better for the space and less money wasted.
6. The Proper Pinwheel
Lexy of The Proper Pinwheel always has great DIY ideas. Last holiday season, she did a great series called “Mission: Merry 2012.” Unfortunately I discovered it in January, but that didn’t stop me from browsing through every post she had and pinning my favorites. I was instantly hooked and excited to try some of her DIY ideas.
7. Spoon Fork Bacon
When I am looking for the perfect recipe, one of the first places I go is Spoon Fork Bacon. Teri and Jenny have amazing recipes and even more amazing food photography. Their blog is clean, which makes it easy to read and enjoy the beautiful photography. They also put the category of the post on the first photo in each post, which I think is a great way to help the reader identify the post right away.
8. Wit & Whistle
Alison introduced me to Wit & Whistle when I first moved to North Carolina. Amanda lives close by in Cary, NC. I love reading her blog to see what she has going on in her online store. She also has creative DIY projects and fun videos. Be sure to bookmark Wit & Whistle if you haven’t already!
What are some of your favorite blogs? Why do they keep you coming back?
Here’s to a wonderful, productive week!
