There’s not much like the cool summer night air wafting through the window and breezing through your hair, hand out the window as the headlights dance across the tarmac. Summer means cars in America and road trips to experience this country like you can no other way. But road trips can be trying and you it’s easy to get cranky after being cooped up in a car for days. Follow these tips to help you make the most of your summer road trip without going crazy:
Get a paper map
When you’re traveling across long stretches of road, it’s just a matter of time before your service cuts out and you’re without a map. Instead, get a paper map and trace out your route in a pretty color highlighter. Paper maps are what we’ve used for decades and while your phone is probably more convenient to find food along the way, paper maps really add to the road trip experience.
Do those car checks your Dad lectured you about
You know how Dad always said to check your car before a long trip and take it to the mechanic to give it a once over? Now’s the time to listen to his advice because breaking down on the side of the road isn’t fun. Neither is walking ten miles to the next gas station! Check your car and send some thanks to good ol’ Dad for making sure you’re taken care of.
Check back later this afternoon for more road trip tips!
