Create a festive 4th of July center piece inexpensively with flowers from your local grocery and a few vases you already have at home.
It’s hard to believe, but the 4th of July is this upcoming Monday! It seems like just yesterday I was dreaming of warmer temperatures and now those warmer temperatures are upon us. Our 4th of July always includes a festive cookout, so I headed to the grocery store to put together a few red, white and blue flower arrangements.
To create these 4th of July centerpieces, you will need:
- 1 bunch red flowers (I used tulips)
- 1 bunch white flowers (I used alstroemeria)
- 1 bunch blue flowers (I used thistle)
- 2 – 3 mason jars of various sizes
- A small US flag
When selecting your flowers, select one bunch of flowers that might be consider a filler, like alstroemeria, daisies or baby’s breath. That bunch will fill the vase and make space for more interesting blooms like thistle, tulips, rununculus, fresia or roses.
To create your arrangements, begin with the filler flower, which in my case is alstroemeria. Divide the bunch between my large and medium jars followed by the division of the statement flowers. Gather up the large bunch of filler flowers and work the tulips and thistle into the bunch. When you are happy with the bunch, cut down all of the stems at an angle and place them into the vase. Next, repeat the process with the second vase of flowers. I placed a few left over thistle into a small vase and tucked a mini flag into my largest vase for a celebratory feel.
I love that these centerpieces can be put together quickly and you can pick up most supplies at the grocery store. If you are looking for more 4th of July ideas, check out these posts:
