I’ve been using all-natural cleaning products for the last few years because I don’t want to expose my family to chemical laden cleaning supplies. I’ve never made my own cleaning products, but recently I came across Kasey Schwartz‘s new book, Essential Oils for a Clean and Healthy Home. The book begins with a primer on essential oils and then dives right into different cleaning recipes.
Keep on reading to discover Kasey’s easy recipes for cell phone cleaner, makeup brush cleaner and a citrus hand scrub from Essential Oils for a Clean and Healthy Home.

Makeup Brush Cleaner
Using makeup brushes daily can leave them caked with a mixture of makeup and dirt. Use this DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner once a week to keep them looking like new. Tea tree and lemon essential oils cleanse and purify, keeping your brushes clean longer.
1 cup hot water
2 tablespoons vinegar
¼ teaspoon liquid Castile soap
5 drops tea tree essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
To Make: Combine water, vinegar, soap, and tea tree and lemon essential oils in a large cup. Mix well.
To Use: Dip makeup brush into the solution and swirl around, pressing against the bottom to “scrub” lightly. Rinse brush well with cold water until the water runs clean. Using a paper towel, gently squeeze out water and reshape brush. Lay flat on paper towels to dry.
Citrus Sugar Scrub

10 drops orange essential oil
To Make: Combine sugar and melted coconut oil in a bowl. Add grapefruit and orange essential oils and mix well. Transfer mixture to a covered jar.
To Use: Wet skin, then apply a small amount of sugar scrub. Massage and scrub skin. Rinse well with water and pat dry.
To Store: Store for up to 1 month in covered jar.
I was able to find all ingredients for these recipes at Whole Foods. The initial investment might seem high, but you use such a small amount of essential oils, that they will last a long time.
