When visiting any city, I prefer to hit local favorites instead of touristy spots. Often times I turn to Twitter or my favorite blogs for travel suggestions. Throughout travel month, I’ve rounded up bloggers and creatives from different cities to share their favorite restaurants and often over looked gems so you can travel like a local in their city.
Today I’m excited to welcome Aubry Lybbert, the blogger behind Finding Beautiful Truth. I was lucky enough to meet her at #SBSCon this year and knew right away that I wanted her to be a part of travel month. Aubry loves all things social media and PR and has a great sense of style. Today she is sharing her favorite spots in downtown Salt Lake City. If you haven’t visited Salt Lake City, I’m sure you’ll want to add it to your list.
Breakfast, brunch or lunch, I love dining at Eva’s Bakery. It’s a quaint and cozy cafe, situated in the heart of downtown.
Their menu features fresh, local ingredients and lots of vegan/vegetarian friendly options. For breakfast or brunch, I recommend ordering the Stuffed French Toast. It’s filled with lemon cream cheese and a blueberry compote. Craving something savory? The Croque-Madame from the lunch menu always hits the spot.
If you’re planning to spend your day downtown, definitely start at Eva’s Bakery. The bright blue facade is the perfect backdrop for pictures, and it’s just a short walk from some of the city’s best shopping.

From June to October, I always make a stop at the Downtown SLC Farmer’s Market. They set up shop in Pioneer Park every Saturday. It’s the perfect place to pick up local produce, a bouquet of fresh flowers or breakfast/lunch from one of the vendors. Dottie’s Biscuit Barn is a favorite. Their biscuits are ALWAYS fresh, flakey and golden brown.
If you prefer to buy clothes versus food, make your way to City Creek. The shopping center is home to stores like Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Free People, Brooks Brothers and Tiffany’s Co. Be sure to wear your walking shoes–you’ll easily spend a few hours strolling from shop to shop.
Historic Temple Square is also a Salt Lake City highlight. During the summer months, the gardens are filled to the brim with beautiful flowers. Pack yourself a picnic and plan to sit in the grass near the reflecting pond. With views like these, it’s one of the prettiest places in the entire city.
