Sparkling Hugo Cocktail & Friday Fun

Hugo Cocktail // Twin Stripe

Cheers to Friday, my friends! Today I am excited to introduce you to a delicious cocktail I recently discovered in Chicago called the Hugo. When I go to dinner, I love to sit at the bar and watch the bartender create beautiful craft cocktails. Often times, I will find out what cocktail they are making so I can decide what to order next. I learned about the refreshing, off-menu, sparkling-wine-based cocktail called the Hugo while chatting with a bartender. It was so delicious, that I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you!

From my research, the Hugo is popular in Italy and Germany, which explains why I have not seen it on a menu in the US. I did a bit of adapting to the recipe because I was unable to easily find a key ingredient: elderflower syrup.

Fresh mint
Crushed ice
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz Belvoir Farms Elderflower Cordial
Prosecco or your favorite sparkling wine

Lightly muddle 5-6 mint leaves in a wine glass to get their flavor out. Add crushed ice, lime juice and Elderflower Cordial to the glass. Fill the glass the rest of the way with prosecco and stir the ingredients together. Garnish the cocktail with a lime slice and sprig of mint.

I hope restaurants in the US start adding the Hugo to their menus soon. It has become my go-to drink this spring and I think that will continue into the summer. The bubbles make it light and refreshing, perfect to sip while dining alfresco this spring.

And now for a little Friday Fun! My friend Kate of the blog A Thought and a Half, has nominated me for the “Sisterhood of the World” Blogger Award. She selected seven bloggers to answer:

1. What was your dream job when you were 5 years old?
I’m not 100% sure, but I would guess a doctor at that point. I obviously took a very different path.

2. What’s something you’re irrationally afraid of?
Recently, it’s been stink bugs. Even though they are harmless, they are so creepy looking and seem to just appear out of no where. I’ve gone as far as to get Chad out of bed to remove a stink bug from my desk.

3. What’s one thing you can cook or bake from scratch and nail it every time?
I make pretty delicious enchiladas if I do say so myself. I don’t have a recipe, but they come out tasty each time.

4. What’s your favorite social network & why?
I’m an Instagram addict. I haven’t had as much time to check out full blog posts, but I love getting a snapshot of what others are sharing on their blogs. If you haven’t followed me on Instagram yet, get on it!

5. Take this quiz: Which Disney Sidekick Should Be Your Sidekick?
My sidekick from my quiz is Abu from Aladdin, but, if I could pick any sidekick, I would choose Baloo from Jungle Book.

6. Do you have a good luck charm? Tell us about it.
Sadly, I don’t think I have a lucky charm…

7. Does your family have a favorite vacation destination? What is it?
When I was a kid, we drove to Destin, Florida pretty much every year. It was the highlight of the summer. Another place we visited a lot when I was growing up is Lake of the Ozarks. It’s the place to be over a holiday weekend if you live in St. Louis. Chad and I don’t have a favorite destination right now; we love to travel all over.

8. How often do you get a manicure and/or pedicure? What’s the wildest color/design you’ve ever gotten?
I would love to get them once a week, but my budget won’t allow for that. Instead I get them if I have a wedding a or trip coming up and I want my nails to look extra nice. I’m not into crazy nail design, but I do love a bright color. I’ve had everything from neon pink to turquoise to black on my nails.

9. Who’s on your concert bucket list?
I’m going to be crossing Ben Folds off my bucket list next week and I can’t wait! I would love to see Justin Timberlake and Beyonc
é in concert. It would be epic if they performed together!

10. What’s a fashion trend of the past that you’re ashamed you once embraced?
Early 90’s fashion isn’t much to write home about. I’m pretty sure I participated in all of these trends, especially 5, 7,10 and 12. Scary!

To keep the fun going, I’m nominating Julia of Tag & Tibby, Bri of Life By Bri, and Meredith Davis of Meredith Noelle. If you don’t feel like participating, no big deal. I just want to let you know that you are an inspiration to me and I wanted to share your blog with others. Just answer the questions above.

Have a wonderful weekend!
