Twin Stripe Visits: The Hirshhorn

In the last two weeks, Katie and I have both visited Washington, DC. Unfortunately our trips didn’t overlap. However, we both made sure the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden was on the agenda while visiting our nation’s capital. The museum, located beside the National Mall, focuses on contemporary and modern art made in the last 50 years. It is part of the Smithsonian Institution, therefore admission is free!

Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

The Hirshhorn has a great permanent collection, but we were lucky to see some captivating exhibitions as well. We both really enjoyed the playful Suprasensorial: Experiments in Light, Color and Space and the majestic Zodiac Heads by Ai Weiwei. We also got a sneak preview of Barbara Kruger’s new exhibition, Belief + Doubt, which opens August 20th.

instagramI snapped pictures like crazy while at the museum. As I was uploading them to Instagram, I discovered an  interesting functionality that I hadn’t used before. When you tag your photo’s geolocation, you can click on the place and see all  of the photos others have taken and tagged as well. It was really cool to peruse other visitors’ photos and all of their different perspectives on the exhibitions.

Next time you visit DC, we definitely recommend a visit to the Hirshhorn!

And lastly, congratulations to our giveway winner, Kim! She shared that her favorite summer cocktail is Stoli blueberry vodka and lemonade with frozen blueberries. It sounds like a perfect summer drink. We hope you find some new favorites in Mrs. Lilien’s Cocktail Swatchbook. Enjoy!
