Behind the Blog: How Twin Stripe Got Its Start

Behind The Blog: Behind the Blog: How Twin Stripe Got It's Start

I’ve teamed up with some amazing bloggers from several different niches to bring you a new monthly series called Behind the Blog: A Behind the Scenes Look at Your Favorite BlogsMy lovely friend, Jennifer of The Life of Jennifer Dawn organized this series – so a major thanks to her! Stop by Jennifer’s blog to find more information about the series, up coming topics and more information about all of the bloggers participating.

Can you believe Twin Stripe is going to be 4 years old in February? It seems like just yesterday, Alison and I were devising plans to create our own online magazine. I hope you enjoy this trip down Twin Stripe memory lane!

Katie and Alison

Alison was my best friend in grad school (and still one of my best friends today). We met at an iMedia open house and kept in touch via Twitter until we started grad school. We instantly clicked. We loved West Elm, fries and Heinz ketchup and most importantly, Design* Sponge. Our personalities were also similar, so we dubbed ourselves twins. We also loved stripes (and still do), so the name Twin Stripe was born.

We both love blogs – if you didn’t know any better, you might think Grace, Joy, Camille and Bri are our closest friends. Because we loved digital media, in the midst of our first semester of grad school, we decided to create an online magazine. We published the first issue of Twin Stripe in  December 2011.

In February 2012 we started blogging a few times a week so we could grow a readership. I wasn’t keen on the idea, but decided it was for the best. (Little did I know that 4 years later I would still be blogging!) We eventually stopped publishing our quarterly magazine, but you can see all of the issues here.

In November 2013, Alison said goodbye to Twin Stripe to pursue other opportunities. I miss the creativity and sense of style Alison brought to the blog, but it has been a true adventure being the blogger behind Twin Stripe for the past 2+ years. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Twin Stripe has evolved over the years, but the constant is the desire to bring original, high quality content to readers that creates a bright and modern lifestyle that doesn’t cost a ton.

I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Twin Stripe!
